Testing

Antifreeze % (Ethylene or Propylene Glycol)

Definition
Antifreeze % (Ethylene or Propylene Glycol) levels should range between 50% and 60% to ensure proper freeze protection and boil point control. High glycol concentration can result in loss of heat transfer. Low concentrations can result in internal boiling which can cause severe metal corrosion and degradation acid formation. Freezing can result in a cracked block.
Standard Test Method Used
POLARIS Method - Calculation from Freeze Point (ASTM D3321)
Reporting Measurement
%
Amount of Sample Needed
10mL
Test Limitation
Antifreeze % does not take into consideration the coolant additives.
