Direct Read Ferrography
- Definition
- Direct Read Ferrography is a quantitative analysis of ferrous particles present in used oil. It provides an index of large ferrous >5μm particles to small ferrous <5μm particles. Because it can identify the amount of ferrous wear occurring within a unit, it is most helpful in illustrating developing trends.
- Standard Test Method Used
- POLARIS Method
- Reporting Measurement
- Large & Small particles
- Amount of Sample Needed
- 2 mL
- Test Limitation
- Detects only ferrous (iron) particles. Will not detect non-ferrous wear or contamination particles.
