Direct Read Ferrography
Definition:
Direct Read Ferrography is a quantitative analysis of ferrous particles present in used oil. It provides an index of large ferrous >5μm particles to small ferrous <5μm particles. Because it can identify the amount of ferrous wear occurring within a unit, it is most helpful in illustrating developing trends.
Standard Test Method Used:
POLARIS Method
Reporting Measurement:
Large & Small particles
Amount of Sample Needed:
2 mL
Test Limitation:
Detects only ferrous (iron) particles. Will not detect non-ferrous wear or contamination particles.
