Definition:
Distillation characteristics of diesel fuel are determined by its composition and are an indication of its suitability for use. The distillation characteristics of fuel are an indication of its volatility and potential to form explosive vapors and deposits during engine operation. The 50% distillation temperature is used with API Gravity to calculate Cetane Index, an approximation of Cetane Number.
