Water by Crackle %
Definition:
Water by Crackle % result is measured by placing a few drops of oil on a hot plate that is heated to 150° C. Positive water will bubble and crackle. Test is an estimate of % by volume and POLARIS only reports an estimate up to 0.5%. The test is very subjective beyond 0.5%.
Standard Test Method Used:
POLARIS Method
Reporting Measurement:
% of volume reported is 0.1 - 0.5%
Amount of Sample Needed:
2 mL
Test Limitation:
Accurate readings are difficult on emulsified fluids. Test is subjective and requires a minimum of 0.1% or 1000ppm to indicate a positive result. Should only be considered as a screening device for industrial hydraulics, gear boxes, compressors, bearing systems or turbines. Karl Fischer water should be performed on these unit types.
