Definition

Water in oil decreases lubricity, prevents additives from performing properly and furthers oxidation. Its presence can be determined by Crackle (hot plate) or FTIR (full spectrum scan) and is reported in % of volume.

FTIR - FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy or Full Spectrum Scan) is a test where infrared light absorption is used for assessing levels of soot, sulfates, oxidation, nitro-oxidation, glycol, fuel and water contaminants.
